Thank goodness for technology, right?

Without it, we’d all be lost somehow. Okay, there might be a slight exaggeration there, but truth is, technology helps us out whether we admit it or not.

As beauty professionals, we have to take advantage of everything that’s available to us from the tech standpoint. This might mean making use of the latest beauty tools + gadgets for your work. But you should know that there’s one beauty gadget you already have that’s probably the easiest one to use: your phone. You probably already use apps on your phone that help you out with everyday things; why not download apps to help you be the best beauty boss you could ever be? Here are 5 beauty apps you must have if you happen to be a busy yet tech-savvy beauty boss.

1. Glamscout

Have you ever had a client come to you with a picture of a makeup look saying, “This is what I want”? Most of the time, you can probably replicate whatever makeup it may be with no problem. But why not make it easier on yourself? There’s an app that can identify makeup shades for you—GlamScout. This app is very easy to use. You basically take a photo of a makeup look you’re interested in and upload it onto the app. In a matter of seconds, you’ll get information on the shades of makeup used on the photo you uploaded. You’ll also get info on specific brands that offer similar shades, product pricing, and a virtual studio where you can digitally try the look on an actual face.

2. Spruce

Beauty bosses need to look good too, and with a demanding schedule, most of us just don’t have the time to make the trip to the dermatologist’s office. Fortunately, there’s an app to solve that dilemma. Spruce basically offers dermatology appointments virtually through your phone app. It doesn’t matter what skin issue you may be having that warrants a visit to the skin doctor. You can send photos and details to the certified dermatologist you’ve chosen to work with, and within 24 hours, you should get a treatment plan and prescriptions if you need them. The cost of consultation and a plan/prescription is only $40. It’s definitely an app that will make skincare easier for you.

3. Hair Alert

Having a bad hair day? There’s an app for that! It’s called Hair Alert, and for just under $2, you can have good hair day—every day. This app analyzes your local weather patterns for the day and gives you recommendations as far as what you need to do in order to have a good hair day. You’ll be able to plan ahead on what hairstyle might be appropriate for the day, what’s going to hold up, or what’s going to fail. You’ll get a hair score each day depending on the weather, and that information can even help you decide whether it’s a good day to wash your hair or not. You’ll find this app as useful as your conditioner—guaranteed!

4. Think Dirty

Helping the environment doesn’t have to be difficult or time consuming. By simply purchasing products that are better for the environment, you’re already doing the world a lot of good. In addition, anything that’s good for the environment is also better for your skin. However, researching actual product ingredients can take time. Thankfully, there’s an app that already does the research part for you. Think Dirty analyzes ingredient labels and notifies you of anything toxic that might be on the product you’re already using or thinking of using. Simply scan the barcode of any product, and Think Dirty will let you know whether the product is toxic-free or not. It’s the perfect app to use if you want your beauty routine to be absolutely clean.

5. Makeup Genius by L’Oreal Paris

There are probably times when you want to try out a look but just don’t have the time to actually do it. Makeup Genius allows you to try on makeup looks virtually. It’s different from all other makeup apps in that it scans as many as 64 points on your face, and it analyzes your face live. This means that you can angle your face as much as you want to test out how the makeup looks all around. The best part about this app is that if the look doesn’t work out at all, you can simply start all over without the hassle of removing makeup and reapplying again. You can even use this app with your clients, allowing them to test out a look before going forth with it. This can guarantee a happy client every time!
