Between long hours serving clients in your work as a skincare, lash/brow or waxing specialist, running your business and family time, it’s easy to feel as if you’re unsuccessfully juggling the balls of life.

Now, with decades of industry experience, I want you to know that burn out is real and can happen to anyone. And that’s why it’s so important to increase your efficiency and prioritize your time.

Want to find out how I’ve been able to strike a balance between motherhood, business owner and marriage? Check out 4 of my best tips.

Hack #1: Never Compromise Your Standards

FACT: Someone else’s procrastination doesn’t create an emergency for you. While your clients are important to you and your business, it’s not a good habit to drop everything because they forget to schedule an appointment and now have a skincare, brow or waxing emergency.

Making an exception once or twice is okay if that’s what you choose to do, but it shouldn’t be the standard if work/life balance is a priority for you.

Hack #2: Be a BOSS, Not an Employee

You can’t build an empire when you’re too busy working as an employee. Instead of reacting and focusing only on your client work, commit to a plan to grow your business so you can hire assistants to take on some of the workload.

You see, just because you’re perfectly capable of doing it all yourself doesn’t mean you should. If you find yourself pouring your time into little tasks that are eating up a considerable portion of your day, it might be time to outsource some of the work.

If you find you have to spend hours on the phone getting back to customers about your spa, it might be time to hire a receptionist. Or if you spend too much time answering questions on social media and responding to customer questions, an assistant might be what you need.

Hack #3: Plan for the Unexpected

As a skincare, lash/brow or waxing specialist, you should always book time into your schedule for the unexpected, unscheduled and unplanned.

For example, if you’re booking clients every hour on the hour or even double booking, you’re not allowing yourself enough cushion for when something goes wrong or an emergency arises, like it often can.

Hack #4: Compartmentalize Your Time

I recommend all skincare, lash/brow or waxing specialists differentiate their time spent servicing clients, running the business, and on personal time. For example, you can block out time throughout your day/week to serve clients.

The time blocked out for client appointments will be separate from the time you spend handling business tasks such as pay bills, talk to vendors, have staff meetings and so on. And your client service and business time will be separate from the days you block out for yourself and family, such as birthdays, holidays, vacations and anniversaries.

Lastly, you’ll also want to set office hours and try your best to stick to them. That way, you can arrive home at a decent hour every day to unwind and hang out with family.

Hack #5: Unplug

Are you having a hard time ignoring your work even when you’re not on the clock? Turn off your phone and log off the computer. Even when you set aside your electronic devices with the intention of ignoring work, it’s hard not to look at all of the notifications you’re bound to get.

You might even want to get a dedicated phone for work – that way, you can disconnect from work while staying connected to friends and family.
