Here are five ways to help you stay positive no matter what comes your way.


1.  Keep a positive environment around you

This means differently for different people. For some, it might mean watching the news less often. For others, it might mean letting go of friends that constantly just bring on negativity when they’re around. It’s not easy to do, but the truth is the less negativity you feed your mind throughout the day, the more room for positivity you will have. Remove the very thing that’s bringing negativity into your life, and you’ll naturally be less negative. It’s basic sense.

2. Don’t mind the little things

You have to learn how to pick your battles whether it’s in life or at work. Sometimes it might seem like the smallest things are affecting you tremendously. When you get to that point, it’s simply because the little things have built up to become something big. Learn to let go of the little things that tend to bother you. You know what they are already, so you should know how to handle them better when they come along. It’s an actual choice you have to make; it doesn’t just happen on its own.  

3. Take care of your physical health

This should be the most obvious one here and probably the most essential. Your body does everything for you. It’s time you really get serious about treating it better. It starts with the most basic. Develop better sleeping habits. Eat better. Exercise. Do all the things that you already know you should be doing. When you sleep better, your mood is better. The same goes for when you exercise. These are the first steps to having a regularly positive predisposition. It shouldn’t be a surprise that it starts with having a better physical form.

4. Learn to take criticism

This is especially crucial in the beauty industry. As a beauty professional, you’ll come across plenty of criticisms throughout your career. For the sake of your mental health, it’s important for you to be able to handle criticism well. You need to learn how to take it all in with a grain of salt and channel it all towards something more positive. I know it’s easier said than done, but practice truly makes perfect. Just remember that most criticism is a reflection of the person giving it and not of you. Having said that, there are criticisms that you should learn from, and being able to tell the difference between the two is the real challenge. 

5. Start your day positively

How you wake up each morning will affect the rest of your day. We’ve all heard that said in some way or another, but the truth of it still befuddles many. Take it slow in the morning. Be grateful for the new day. Take some time to meditate, read, sip your coffee, or exercise. Do something you love, and do it slowly. Learn how not to rush through your morning, and your day won’t feel rushed as well. In short, you’ve got to spend some time to smell the roses. Be mindful of how you spend your time, and you’ll cultivate a little bit more positivity with every day that passes by.
