As beauty bosses, we all have our fair share of bad habits, including dream-crushing, profit-stalling procrastination. While, no one sets out to purposely procrastinate, many of us do it without even giving it a second thought.

Time and time again we find ourselves putting tasks off to the very last minute, and as a result, flooding our lives and businesses with unnecessary stress and frustration. And while procrastinating may seem harmless today, trust me, it will create an overwhelming mess when you’re juggling a schedule full of clients, activities for your kids and self-care.

So it’s best to get your procrastinating tendencies in check now, so you know exactly how to push through whenever “I’ll-put-it-off-until-tomorrow-itis” rears its ugly little head.

Here are 4 strategies you can use to push procrastination to the side and continue progressing (and profiting) as a beauty boss.

Strategy #1: Figure Out Why You’re Procrastinating

People who procrastinate aren’t just lazy. You wouldn’t have made it this far as a beauty boss if that were the case! We almost always have a real reason for putting things off – a lot of people just don’t realize what it is. So, the next time you find yourself putting something off, I want you to stop and ask yourself why.

For some people, it’s simply that they need a break. Or the issue could be more serious – you’re afraid of failing at the task at hand, you’re unhappy with something going on with your team, or your mind is preoccupied with another stressor.

Strategy #2: Fix the Problem

Now you know what’s making you procrastinate, find a way to fix it. If you need a break, take the time to go for a walk and unwind. The time you take to give your body and mind a rest will make you more productive in the long run.

If you’re easily distracted, try to eliminate as many distractions as possible. For example: turn off your notifications so you can concentration on getting the job at hand done.

If a bigger problem needs to be tackled, this step might be a bit more challenging. But even the act of developing an action plan to resolve the problem can put your mind at ease and help you focus on the task at hand.

Strategy #3: Just Do It

Usually, the hardest part is getting started. Once you get going, following through and working your way through the entire task will get progressively easier. When you sit around and focus on how much you don’t want to do something, you’ll be making it considerably harder for yourself than if you jumped in and just got it done.

Strategy #4: Celebrate Your Victories

Don’t forget to acknowledge the progress you’ve made on whatever tasks you’ve been working on. While others might not always recognize your hard work, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t!

Checking things off your to-do list and acknowledging your own hard work can be a great mental boost and give you the motivation you need to keep going.
